If you own an iPod touch, and you don’t have a GPS, you can use the Maps app on the iPod touch to find your way on a road trip. You may ask: “How can I use the Maps app for a road trip if I do not have internet access?” This is how to do it:
- Set your route via the directions function while you have internet access.
- Go through the route by clicking the arrows and waiting for them to completely load the map. You may also want to zoom in and out and get those parts of the map loaded also. Do this step over for all of the steps of the route it makes for you.
- (optional) If you are really concerned about getting lost, you can follow the route on the iPod to load the whole thing in to memory.
- You are now ready for a road trip! This works for all the times I have tried it, but it may not work if you put too much data in the cache, so don’t count on it entirely until you have tested it.
P.S. This tip also works with the Google earth app.
